K2 Is Awarded SAFETY Act DT&E Designation Renewal for Person-Borne Explosive Detection
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has renewed K2’s SAFETY Act DT&E Designation for Person-Borne Explosive Detection, originally awarded in 2016.
March 4, 2020 - K2’s PB-EDC Handler Teams are a DHS “Qualified Anti-Terrorism Technology.” For this Technology, K2 was originally awarded a SAFETY Act Developmental, Testing & Evaluation (DT&E) Designation on April 27, 2016. On March 4, 2020, the DHS renewed our DT&E Designation for Person-Borne teams. K2 is the only Explosive Detection Canine provider to earn a SAFETY Act DT&E Designation for Person-Borne teams.
The Technology is the use of proprietary explosive detection canine teams to detect explosives carried by individuals, e.g., in backpacks, vests, and/or on clothing, by tracking the odor from explosive material to a moving source. The Technology is also used to locate explosives on stationary objects. The Technology includes hiring and vetting of personnel, and policies and procedures used for its deployment.
