Mark Holbrook, Vice President of Security Services

Mark started his Law Enforcement career in 1982 with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department. During his career, he worked Patrol, Gang Detective, Special Weapons Team, and Canine Handler with the Special Weapons Team. After retirement, he went to work for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Transportation Security Administration (TSA). In 2003, he graduated the DHS Transportation Security Specialist-Aviation Security Inspector Program. As an Inspector, Mark conducted comprehensive inspections and investigations of air carriers, airport operators, and indirect air carriers, all-cargo carriers, to determine their security & compliance posture at nine regional airports.     

In 2008, Mark left the TSA to support the Department of Defense (DoD), war on terror in Iraq. Mark deployed to Fallujah with the United States Marine Corps from January 2008 to February 2009 as the Senior Law Enforcement Professional (LEP) Advisor, assigned to the G-3 and Officer in Charge of the Counter-Improvised Explosives Device (C-IED) cell. Mark managed all LEP personnel deployed to Iraq in support of USMC operations. He investigated and responded to catastrophic IED events to identify and target IED networks and criminal cells. Upon returning from Iraq, Mark accepted a position with the DHS/TSA as a lead Explosives Detection Canine Handler. Mark received the “Top Dog” Award from Lackland Air Force Base, DHS Explosives Detection Canine School. As the lead handler, Mark developed training plans and supervised subordinate canine teams. He screened cargo, aircraft, airport terminals, luggage, facilities, vehicles, and other venues for the presence of explosives to promote public safety.   

In 2010, Mark joined K2 as a member of the Joint Expeditionary Team under a DoD contract with the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization (JIEDDO). From 2010-2021 his primary responsibilities included embedding with Soldiers and Marines in a combat environment to advise, observe, collect, analyze, and disseminate information on all aspects of C-IED and Counter‐Improvised Threat Operations. Mark has numerous combat deployments in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Africa. Mark brings a wealth of expertise in identifying and mitigating the IED threat. Mark maintains a Top-Secret SCI Security Clearance and is the Principal Security Coordinator for K2's 3PK9-C operations.
